VISITOR CENTERVisiting Booker Fowler Fish HatcheryThe Booker Fowler Fish Hatchery Visitors Center is a 4,300 square foot building boasting over 10,000 gallons of aquaria. Native Louisiana fish, reptiles, amphibians, and crustaceans are displayed in the various aquaria in the Visitors Center. A 50-seat theater is located in the Visitors Center for Educational Programs. The Visitors Center is also home to extensive wall murals hand-painted by local artists Gene Dupuis and Paul Wallace. The murals depict natural Louisiana habitats in day, evening, and night settings. Visitors are encouraged to take the self-guided walking tour of the fish hatchery which begins at the Visitors Center. The best time to visit the fish hatchery is from mid-March to mid-May. Visitors are welcome at the hatchery from 9 am to 3 pm Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. Groups of 10 or more (especially school groups) should schedule a tour with our Wildlife Educator, Angela Capello (318-748-6999). A large pavilion with picnic tables is located behind the building for anyone wishing to bring a picnic lunch along for their visit to the hatchery. Please see our PHOTO ALBUM for more photos of the Visitors Center!!! |
