The Louisiana Department of Wildlife & Fisheries has issued the following advisory on the opening of hunting seasons in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
Louisianas dove season will open as scheduled at noon on Saturday, Sept. 3. Hunters are advised to cooperate with authorities and stay out of parishes most severely impacted by the hurricane. Dove hunters should not travel to the parishes of Tangipahoa, Washington or St. Tammany. Travel to Sandy Hollow and Bens Creek Wildlife Management Areas is not advised at this time.
Fish and game agents from other states will assist in the protection of Louisianas fish and game resources over the course of the next several weeks.
Additional updates on the status of the remaining 2005-06 hunting seasons will be issued by the Office of the Secretary following habitat assessment which is in progress.
