The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission (LWFC) amended the 2006-07 Hunting Seasons and Regulations Notice of Intent at their April meeting based on public comments received directly and through a series of public meetings held in March.
After the public meetings held around the state by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and public comment submitted to the LWFC, the following amendments were added:
- Add the following five parishes to the list of parishes that will have specified either-sex days, instead of having every day of the open season an either-sex day: Iberia, Assumption, St. Martin and St. Mary (Nov. 18-26, Dec. 9-10); and Iberville (Nov. 18-26, Dec. 9-10, 23-24, 30-31). These parishes will have the same number of either-sex days as last year.
- Add three days (Nov. 24-26) to the Firearms Bucks Only Hunt for Dewey Wills Wildlife Management Area (WMA).
- Allow for small game hunting in the Restricted Area on the Thistlethwaite WMA with shotguns loaded with shot no larger than BB lead or F steel. Amendment will also allow archery hunting only for deer in the restricted area.
The LWFC also removed the proposed ban on deer hunting with dogs on land administered by the State Lands Office.

Public comment on these amendments will still be accepted at the LWFC's May 4 meeting held in Baton Rouge. People can also submit their public comment until May 4 electronically at www.wlf.louisiana.gov or by mail by addressing it to David Moreland, Administrator, Wildlife Division, Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, P.O. Box 98000, Baton Rouge, LA 70898.
The LWFC will vote for adoption of the 2006-07 Hunting Seasons and Regulations at their May 4 meeting.
