NOTICE OF INTENT TO ADD TYPE V PERSONAL FLOTATION DEVICES TO STATE REGULATIONS APPROVED

The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission approved a notice of intent that will include Type V personal flotation devices (PFD) on the state's approved PFD list at their November meeting.


The notice of intent states that a Type V PFD may replace a Type I, II or III PFD as long as the Type V PFD is approved by the U.S. Coast Guard and the PFD is used in accordance with its owner's manual. 


The operator of a vessel must carry at least one readily accessible approved U.S. Coast Guard wearable PFD for each person on board.  In addition, vessels 16 feet and longer must carry at least one Type IV throwable PFD.


Public comment for this notice of intent can be submitted to Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Enforcement Division Col. Winton Vidrine by mail at LDWF, Box 98000, Baton Rouge, LA 70898-9000 by Jan. 4, 2007.
