The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries would like to remind duck hunters that the 2006 Youth Waterfowl Hunting Weekend in the west zone will be this Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 4 and 5. Youth Waterfowl Hunting Weekend in the east zone will be next weekend, Nov. 11 and 12.
Waterfowl hunters age 15 and younger, when accompanied by an adult (age 18 and older), may take ducks, geese, mergansers, coots and gallinules on these special youth hunting days. Bag limits are the same as the regular duck season. The adult may not hunt ducks on these days.
The daily bag limit on ducks is six and may include no more than four mallards (no more than two of which may be females), one canvasback, one pintail, three mottled ducks, one black duck, two wood ducks, two scaup and two redheads. The daily bag limit on coots is 15. In addition to the daily bag limit for ducks, the daily bag limit for mergansers is five, only two of which may be a hooded merganser. The possession limit on ducks, coots and mergansers is twice the daily bag limit.
The 2006-07 Louisiana Migratory Game Bird Hunting Regulations pamphlet, available at LDWF regional offices and on their Web site at www.wlf.louisiana.gov/hunting/regulations, contains a map of the hunting zones and the rules and regulations for the season.
