Commission Resolution Adds Acreage to WMAs

Release Date: 06/05/2014

June 5, 2014 – The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission today adopted a resolution that adds acreage to Dewey Wills and Little River Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs).
Dewey Wills WMA’s new 265 acres have been added through a cooperative management agreement with the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACOE). That addition increases Dewey Wills to 63,901 total acres that also includes land owned by LDWF and the LaSalle Parish School Board. Dewey Wills includes portions of LaSalle, Rapides and Catahoula Parishes.
Little River WMA in Grant, LaSalle and Rapides Parishes will add 1,109 acres through a separate USACOE cooperative agreement and the WMA will contain 5,951 total acres.
The Commission’s resolution procedure is part of the formal regulatory process that must be followed in the establishment of WMAs. LDWF manages over 1.5 million acres of public land for outdoor recreation use. For more information on the state WMA program, visit .
