Hunting Opportunities

White Lake Wetlands Conservation Area Hunting Opportunities

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries offers numerous types of waterfowl hunting opportunities at White Lake Wetlands Conservation Area. These hunts have the potential to provide excellent waterfowl hunting to the general public. Participants for the hunts are selected by a computerized random draw system. Applications for these hunts become available online after the hunting seasons are determined. Typically, teal season applications are posted online in mid-summer, and regular duck season applications are available late summer to early fall.

Types of Lottery Waterfowl Hunts Available:

Teal Lottery Hunts (applications available mid-July for September hunting dates)

Teal Lottery Hunts are conducted in WLWCA’s hunting marsh. Hunts are limited to the selected applicant and a guest. The two hunters will hunt as one group in a blind, and the total cost is $250. Each morning that a hunt is offered, six separate groups will go out on teal hunts. LDWF provides boat transportation to and from the blinds, guides to call and retrieve birds, and a short tour of the lodge.

Teal Hunt participants must arrive at the WLWCA designated parking area at the designated time, as outlined on the notification letter sent to selected applicants. Hunting will end no later than 9:00AM. All participants should be back at their vehicles by 10:30AM.

Youth Lottery Hunts (applications available mid-August for November hunting dates)

Youth Lottery Hunts are offered during the waterfowl youth weekend and are conducted in WLWCA’s hunting marsh. Hunts are limited to the selected youth applicant (under 16 years of age) and an accompanying parent or guardian. The youth hunter will hunt from a blind with their parent or guardian, but the parent or guardian is not allowed to hunt during the youth hunt. These hunts are offered free of charge. Eight youth hunters are selected for each day of the waterfowl youth weekend. LDWF provides boat transportation to and from the blinds, guides to call and retrieve birds, and breakfast at the lodge.

The three hunters will hunt as one group from a blind, and the total cost is $225. Each morning that a hunt is offered, three groups will go out on Rice Field Hunts. LDWF provides the hunting blind, decoys, and transportation to and from the levee where the blind is buried. Group Lottery Hunts (applications available mid-August for Nov/Dec/Jan hunting dates)

These funds assist in management of the WLWCA property throughout the year.  Group Hunts are conducted from blinds in WLWCA’s hunting marsh. Each blind can accommodate up to two hunters. LDWF provides full lodging services for Group Hunts. This includes two nights at the WLWCA hunting lodge, food, drinks, and licenses. LDWF provides boat transportation to and from the blinds, guides to call and retrieve birds, fishing guides, hunting and fishing equipment, waterfowl and fish cleaning and packing services, and access to the skeet and sporting clay ranges with clays and shells provided.

Group Lottery Hunt participants arrive at the WLWCA designated parking area in the afternoon and are taken to the lodge. Hunters will sleep at the lodge for two nights and will participate in two morning waterfowl hunts. Participants are allowed to shoot skeet, shoot sporting clays or fish in the afternoon/evening. After the second morning waterfowl hunt, participants will eat lunch and depart the lodge by noon.
