What do I do with Tilapia Caught Outside of Fishing Closure Area?
LDWF's Office of Fisheries requests that anyone capturing a tilapia, outside of the Fishing Closure area, not return the fish to the water. Tilapia, once rendered dead, can be possessed and transported per Louisiana state law (R.S. 56:319). Information received from the public on the location of tilapia within state waterways will assist biologists in habitat assessments and response planning. The location of any tilapia capture should be reported by calling LDWF's Office of Fisheries at ph. 225-763-5415 or e-mailing hfox@wlf.la.gov.
