LDWF reminds anglers that the recreational Red Snapper season remains open 7-days a week with a daily bag limit of four fish per person and a 16-inch total minimum length limit. Additionally, recreational seasons for Gray Triggerfish and Greater Amberjack remain open.
LDWF’s LA Creel program reports that 93.3% of the Red Snapper quota has been met, leaving an additional 62,676 pounds available for harvest!
“We are excited to continue providing recreational fishing opportunity for Red Snapper for our sportsmen,” said Madison Sheahan, Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. “This is a huge win, and we encourage all anglers to take full advantage of offshore fishing opportunities while Red Snapper quota remains available.”
Louisiana anglers have already had 135 days of Red Snapper fishing so far this year. The latest projections are indicating we may reach our allocation of 934,587 pounds by early October, so make sure you get in on some of the late season action before quota is met.

Recreational anglers can harvest one Greater Amberjack per person per day, having a minimum 34-inch fork length, and the bag and possession limit for captains and crew on a for-hire vessel is zero. Gray Triggerfish have a minimum size length of 15 inches fork length and anglers can harvest one Gray Triggerfish per person per day. As a reminder, anglers fishing for reef fish, including Greater Amberjack, are required to have a valid Recreational Offshore Landing Permit (ROLP) and a venting tool or descending device rigged and ready to use.
