Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited a Charenton man for alleged deer hunting violations in St. Mary Parish on Jan. 14.
Agents cited Grant Knox, 28, for hunting deer during illegal hours, with an illegal weapon, from a public highway and from a moving vehicle.
Agents setup surveillance on a deer decoy they placed near the town of Baldwin in a field off a public roadway known for night hunting activity on the evening of Jan. 14. Shortly after 8 p.m. agents observed Knox pass by in a truck and notice the deer decoy in the field.
Agents then witnessed Knox shoot a .22 rimfire rifle out of the truck’s window, which struck the deer decoy. Agents made contact with Knox and cited him accordingly.
Hunting deer during illegal hours brings a $900 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail. Hunting deer from a moving vehicle brings a $250 to $500 fine and up to 90 days in jail. Hunting deer from a public road and with an illegal weapon carries up to a $350 fine for each offense.
Agents participating in the case are Agent Trevor Benoit, Sgt. Jeremy Foret, Sgt. Gerald Sander and Lt Scott Dupre.
