Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited two Port Barre natives for alleged deer hunting violations in St. Landry Parish on Jan. 19.

Agents cited Bryan Vidrine, 48, and a 16-year-old juvenile for hunting deer during illegal hours, from a public roadway and from a moving vehicle.

Agents were on patrol on the evening of Jan. 19 around Palmetto when they made contact with Vidrine and a juvenile in their truck.  Agents observed a high-powered rifle, 12-gauge shotgun and two spotlights in the vehicle.

During questioning, the subjects admitted to spotlighting several areas that evening with the intention of harvesting deer.  They also admitted to harvesting three deer at night earlier in the hunting season.

Hunting deer during illegal hours brings a $900 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail.  Hunting from a moving vehicle carries a $250 to $500 fine and up to 90 days in jail.  Hunting deer from a public road carries up to a $350 fine.

The subjects may also face civil restitution totaling $4,874 for the replacement value of the illegally taken deer.
