Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited a Chatham man for alleged turkey hunting violations on April 9 in Jackson Parish.
Agents cited Michael Chatham, 59, for hunting turkeys over a baited area and failing to comply with turkey tagging requirements.
Agents received an anonymous tip about a man hunting over a baited area who also harvested a turkey on March 25. After further investigation, agents were able to determine the specific area and set up surveillance on the morning of April 9.
While observing the baited area, agents spotted Chatham actively hunting the area for well over an hour. Agents then made contact with Chatham and he confessed to harvesting the turkey on March 25 without tagging the turkey.
Hunting turkeys over a baited area carries a $250 to $500 fine and up to 90 days in jail. Failing to comply with turkey tagging requirements brings a $100 to $350 fine and up to 60 days in jail.
Agents participating in the case are Sgt. Wesley Duck, Sgt. Bear Fletcher, Sgt. Lee Tarver, Senior Agent John Hattaway, Senior Agent David Nelson, and Senior Agent Jay Wilson.
