LDWF would like to clarify that recreational red snapper harvest begins May 25.  A few anglers have had confusion regarding when recreational fishing for red snapper will be allowed for holders of a Recreational Offshore Landing Permit (ROLP) under the Exempted Fishing Permit (EFP) granted to Louisiana.  While the EFP allows the recreational harvest of red snapper from federal waters outside of a federal season, it only allows that harvest at times and seasons set by the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission (LWFC) when an angler possesses a saltwater fishing license and a ROLP.

At its May meeting, the LWFC set the recreational red snapper season to open Friday, May 25 and run daily until LA Creel data indicates the allotted quota has been or is projected to be reached.
