The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries initiated a drawdown on Clear-Smithport Lake in Desoto Parish on July 1 to control nuisance aquatic vegetation.

Biologists will also use this low water period to assess the lake bottom and make restoration recommendations regarding fisheries habitat.

A gate closure date will be determined by LDWF staff following vegetation surveys and habitat assessments.
