Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents are investigating a single fatal boating fatality in Calcasieu Parish.  The boating incident claimed the life of Lucas Marcantel, 24, of LeBleu Settlement.

Agents were alerted about a man who fell overboard into the east fork of the Calcasieu River around 7:50 p.m. on Sept. 17.  Marcantel’s body was recovered around 10 p.m. and turned over to the Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s Office to determine an official cause of death.

According to the other occupant in the 15-foot aluminum vessel, he and Marcantel were baiting a trotline when Marcantel fell overboard and did not resurface.

LDWF will be the lead investigative agency for this fatal boating incident.  Marcantel was not wearing a personal flotation device when he fell overboard.

The LDWF Enforcement Division and the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office participated in the search.
