Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) Secretary Madison Sheahan and Deputy Secretary Stephen Clark met with Enforcement Division agents and the Louisiana Operation Game Thief (LOGT) Board of Directors during one of their quarterly meetings on Feb. 3 in Baton Rouge.
Louisiana Operation Game Thief is an effective wildlife crime-stopper program focused on preserving and conserving Louisiana’s natural resources. Louisiana Operation Game Thief, which was created in 1984, collaborates with the LDWF Enforcement Division and the citizens of Louisiana to combat illegal hunting, fishing or other wildlife related offenses.
At the quarterly meeting, the LOGT board reviewed 19 cases that included public tips and awarded $7,700 to the informants. A total of 32 subjects were apprehended and 117 citations were written in regards to the reviewed cases.
The cases reviewed and awarded money to the public for their assistance consisted of deer, migratory game bird, alligator and recreational fishing cases.
If a citizen has information concerning a violation, they can confidentially and anonymously call the Operation Game Thief toll-free, 24-hour line at 1-800-442-2511. If the information provided leads to an arrest or issuance of a citation for the violation, the individual could receive a reward of up to $1000.
