Louisiana red snapper season is winding down for 2019. The latest catch statistics recorded by LA Creel, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries' near real-time data collection program is 800,336 pounds or 98 percent of Louisiana’s allocation (16,103 pounds remain unharvested). This estimate covers the period through December 8, 2019.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries reminds anglers that the recreational red snapper season is scheduled to close at 11:59 p.m., December 31, unless the quota is reached sooner.

The private recreational red snapper angler will have had 109 fishing days in both state and federal waters, if the season closes December 31.

“We thank our anglers for their continued participation in our LA Creel surveys,” said LDWF Secretary Jack Montoucet. “With your help, we were able to maximize the harvest of our state’s allocation of red snapper - a prime example of fishery managers and anglers working together to manage our resources better.”

Montoucet encourages anglers to get out and fish. “We want to finish the year as close to our quota as possible,” he said.
