The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) announced that the state recreational red snapper season will close at 12:01 a.m. on January 1, 2016.

The state Fall red snapper season which opened on November 20th allowed anglers a final opportunity to harvest the remaining 88,823 pounds of red snapper that went unharvested earlier in the year.  The Fall season provided anglers an additional 41 days of fishing opportunity in 2015.

“Thanks to LA Creel we are able to monitor red snapper landings in near real-time, allowing Louisiana anglers to maximize their catch”, said Robert Barham, Secretary of LDWF. The 2016 state red snapper season dates will be discussed at the January Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission meeting.
