Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Enforcement agents cited a Marksville man for alleged illegal taking of a non-game bird and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile on Aug. 12 in Avoyelles Parish.
Agents cited Larry J. Dauzat, 66, for taking an Ibis and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.
Agents received information that Dauzat shot and killed an Ibis on or about Aug. 10 on the bank of Boggy Bayou near the Marksville area.
Agents were able to secure a search warrant and entered the Dauzat’s camp on Aug 12. Agents discovered wings and feathers of an Ibis tossed in some long grass in the neighboring property.
Agents continued their search and discovered two freezer bags in an outdoor kitchen freezer containing suspected Ibis. It was also discovered that the violation occurred in the presence of the subject's 7-year-old grandson. The grandson was asked to participate in the illegal activity by assisting in the cleaning of the bird.
Agents also found an additional Ibis in Dauzat’s freezer that he admitted to killing on a different occasion.
Taking an Ibis brings a $400 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail. Contributing to the delinquency of a minor carries up to a $500 fine and six months in jail.
