LDWF agents seized Frey’s scope and cited him for hunting deer during illegal hours, hunting deer during a closed season and hunting from a moving vehicle.  Agents then obtained a search warrant on Oct. 16 to review video footage on Frey’s thermal imaging scope where they found videos of deer being taken by Frey in the summer.

On Oct. 17, agents interviewed Frey at his residence where he admitted to killing two 8-point deer on July 28th and one 9-point deer on Aug. 3 on Bodark Road and Aimes Road at approximately midnight with his thermal scoped AR-15 rifle.  Frey also admitted to hiding the skull mounts at a different residence after he was cited on Oct. 4.

Frey was booked into the Concordia Parish Jail.

Hunting deer during illegal hours, hunting deer during a closed season, and intentional concealment of wildlife each brings a $900 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail for each offense.  Possession of illegally taken deer brings a $400 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail.  Hunting with a thermal vision scope and hunting from a moving vehicle each brings a $250 to $500 fine and up to 90 days in jail for each offense.  Hunting from a public road and failing to comply with deer tagging requirements each brings a $100 to $350 fine and up to 60 days in jail for each offense.  Hunting without basic hunting and big game licenses each brings up to a $50 fine and 15 days in jail for each offense.

Frey may also face civil restitution totaling $6,099 for the replacement value of the illegally taken deer.
