The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries announced that the recreational greater amberjack season will reopen in Louisiana waters on May 1, 2018, and remain open through May 31, 2018. The recreational fixed closed season from June 1, 2018, through July 31, 2018 will remain in effect. Following the fixed closed season, the recreational season will reopen on August 1, 2018, and remain open until October 31, 2018, or until the annual quota is met or projected to be met.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Fisheries had temporarily closed the season prior to promulgating new spring and fall recreational greater amberjack seasons.

LDWF Secretary Jack Montoucet was authorized by the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission in previously promulgated rules (LAC 76.VII.335.G.5) to change or modify the opening and closing dates for any recreational reef fish season in Louisiana waters when notified of a modification to a season in federal waters adjacent to Louisiana by NOAA Fisheries.
