Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Enforcement agents have currently rescued a total of 491 people and 110 animals to date due to the flooding in Louisiana.

Agents began search and rescue missions around 4 a.m. on Aug. 12.  During this day agents rescued 438 people and 94 animals.  The breakdown by parish is as follows for Aug. 12:

Tangipahoa - 117 people and 23 animals
Washington - 3 people
Livingston - 48 people and 14 animals
St. Helena - 25 people
East Baton Rouge - 77 people and 23 animals
Iberia - 30 people and 2 animals
Lafayette - 83 people and 25 animals
East Feliciana - 49 people and 5 animals
West Feliciana - 2 people
Vermilion - 4 people and 2 animals

Agents also performed rescues overnight in the flooded areas.  As of 6 a.m. this morning agents have rescued 53 more people and 16 more animals since midnight on Aug. 13.  The breakdown of rescues on Aug. 13 to date by parish is as follows:

Tangipahoa - 10 people and 2 animals
Livingston - 18 people and 2 animals
East Baton Rouge - 25 people and 12 animals

Search and rescue operations are still ongoing and the number of people and animals rescued will rise over the course of the day into Aug. 14.  Agents will also remain on alert and be ready for further search and rescue activities until the flood waters recede.

The flooding is being caused by a lingering surface low that is drawing in tropical moisture into the southern parishes. Numerous showers and thunderstorms with heavy rainfall is anticipated well until Sunday.
