Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) enforcement agents cited a Theriot man for alleged shrimping violations on Aug. 20 in Terrebonne Parish.

Agents cited Clevis Dehart, 35, for possession of undersized white shrimp.

Agents received information about a captain of a shrimping vessel catching undersized white shrimp in Dog Lake in Terrebonne Parish.  On Aug. 20, agents were on patrol in Dog Lake when they located a vessel actively skimming for shrimp.

Agents boarded the vessel and found Dehart was the captain.  Agents inspected the catch onboard and found undersized white shrimp.  Louisiana law states that fishermen cannot possess any white shrimp over 100 count to the pound until Oct. 15.

Agents seized 315 pounds of shrimp and donated them to a local charity.

Possession of undersized white shrimp brings a $250 to $500 fine and up to 90 days in jail.  Dehart may also face civil restitution totaling $809 for the replacement value of the illegally taken shrimp.
