This free boating course usually lasts between 6 and 8 hours. Participants usually complete the course in one day. The course includes information on choosing a boat, classification, hulls, motors, legal and equipment requirements, navigation rules, navigation charts, trailering, sailboats, and related subjects that include canoeing, personal watercraft and more. Participants who complete the course will receive a Boater Education Certificate.

**This course will be held in the library's meeting room** All students will be required to bring their own lunch or have means to get lunch during a one-hour break period. Snacks and drinks will not be provided, but are encouraged and allowed. This course is required by law to be taken by any individual, born after January 1, 1984, who may find themselves operating a boat by themselves on Louisiana public waterways; but the course is open to boaters of all ages. The recommended minimum age to apply for this course is 10 years old. The course includes information on classification, hulls, motors, legal and equipment requirements, navigation rules, navigation charts, trailering, sailboats, and personal watercraft. A permanent certification will be emailed to the email address used at registration in approximately 2 weeks. Parents will not be allowed into the classroom during instruction unless registered to take the class themselves. When applying, please make sure to fill-out any field marked with a red asterisk.
