Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited a Turkey Creek man for alleged turkey hunting violations on March 25 in Evangeline Parish.

Agents cited Darwin W. Nelson, 43, for hunting turkey over a baited area and contributing the delinquency of a juvenile.

Agents located an area near Cypress baited with corn on March 21.  On March 25, agents setup surveillance on the baited area and observed Nelson place a turkey decoy in the baited area.  Then Nelson and a juvenile got behind some camouflage netting and actively called for turkeys.

Agents then witnessed Nelson exit the hunting area and they made contact with him and the juvenile.  Nelson admitted to placing the bait in the hopes of attracting turkeys to the area so that the juvenile could harvest one.

Hunting turkeys over a baited area brings a $250 to $500 fine and up to 90 days in jail.  Contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile carries up to a $500 fine and six months in jail.

Agents participating in the case are Corporal Tib Guillory and Corporal Jason Stagg.
