Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited a subject for alleged fishing violations on Sept. 1 in Terrebonne Parish.

Agents cited Yusheng Hong, 38, of New Orleans, for illegal use of monofilament, taking or selling commercial fish or bait species without a commercial fishing license, taking commercial fish without a commercial gear license, commercial fishing on the Pointe-Aux-Chenes Wildlife Management Area (WMA), and being on a WMA without a self-clearing permit and WMA access permit.

Agents were patrolling Island Road on the Pointe-aux-Chenes WMA around 6 p.m. when they found a gill net tied up on a fishing pier and Hong nearby. Agents made contact with Hong and learned he was using a monofilament gill net on the WMA.

Illegal use of monofilament carries a $350 to $750 fine and 15 to 30 days in jail. Taking commercial fish without a commercial fishing license and without a commercial gear license brings a $250 to $500 fine and up to 90 days in jail for each offense. Commercial fishing on the Pointe-aux-Chenes WMA and being on a WMA without a self-clearing permit and WMA access permit carries up to a $350 fine for each offense.

Agents seized 12 dozen crabs and returned them to the water and a spadefish.

Agents participating in the case are Corporal Jonathan Boudreaux and Agent Kyle Volentine.
