Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited three subjects for deer hunting violations in Rapides Parish on Oct. 18.

Agents cited Kalob D. Bennett, of Hineston, Brandon Freeman, 26, of Otis, and Tejon Joyce, 18, of Sieper, for hunting deer during illegal hours, hunting deer from a public roadway and hunting from a moving vehicle. Agents also arrested Bennett for driving a vehicle while impaired (DWI) and cited him for possession of marijuana and booked him into the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office Jail.

Agents were on patrol in the Kisatchie National Forest on the night of Oct. 18 when they observed the subjects actively shining a spotlight for deer from a vehicle.

Agents stopped the vehicle and determined that Bennett was operating the vehicle while impaired and also found him in possession of marijuana. Agents also found the subjects in possession of a spot light and a .22 caliber rifle in the front seat. Agents seized the light and the rifle.

First offense DWI carries a $300 to $1,000 fine and up to six months in jail. Possession of marijuana carries up to $100 fine.

Hunting deer during illegal hours brings a $900 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail. Hunting from a moving vehicle brings a $250 to $500 fine and up to 90 days in jail. Hunting deer from a public road brings up to a $350 fine.
