Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited two subjects for alleged oyster fishing violations on Oct. 8 in Terrebonne Parish.

Agents cited Gabriel Gomez, 31, and Mario Gomez, 47, both of Houma, for unlawfully taking oysters from state water bottoms.

Agents were on patrol in Old Oyster Bayou when they observed two subjects on a vessel actively fishing for oysters on unleased state water bottoms. Agents made contact with the subjects and found Gabriel Gomez and Mario Gomez on board in possession of 17 sacks of oysters.

Agents determined they did not have permission to be fishing for oysters from this area. Agents seized the 17 sacks of oysters and returned them to the water.

Unlawfully taking oysters from state water bottoms brings a $400 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail.

Agents participating in this case are Corporal Jonathan Boudreaux and Lt. Gerald Sander.
