Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commissioner Edward “Ed” W. Swindell has resigned from the commission to accept a position on the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council.

Swindell announced his departure from the commission at their Aug. 6 meeting, effective Aug. 10. He had served on the commission since April 2014 following his appointment by Governor Bobby Jindal. By law, Swindell is not able to hold the two positions concurrently.

A Hammond resident, Swindell represented the commercial fishing and fur industry on the commission. An appointee who would fill the remainder of his term has not yet been named.
