Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) enforcement agents cited a Baton Rouge man for alleged fishing violations on Aug. 4 in Jefferson Parish.

Agents cited Gui Chen, 56, for fishing without a saltwater fishing license, possessing undersized Spotted Sea Trout, and possessing 50 or more Spotted Sea Trout.

Agents were on patrol in Grand Isle when they observed Chen fishing from a Grand Isle fishing pier. During a compliance check, agents found Chen in possession of 401 White Sea Trout and 65 Spotted Sea Trout.

All of the Spotted Sea Trout were found to be under the minimum size requirement of 13 inches. Agents also found that Chen did not possess a saltwater fishing license.

Agents seized all of the fish and donated them to a local charity.

Possessing over 50 Spotted Sea Trout brings a $400 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail. Possession of undersized Spotted Sea Trout carries up to a $350 fine. Fishing without a saltwater license brings up to a $50 fine.

Chen may also face civil restitution totaling $3,443 for the replacement value of the illegally possessed fish.

Agents participating in this case are Sgt. Norman Deroche, Corporal Johnathan Boudreaux and Agent Harry Gaines.
