Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited three Mississippi subjects for flounder and red drum violations on Nov. 8 in Plaquemines Parish.
Agents cited Dap Van Nguyen, 58, Non Van Nguyen, 51, and Wilson Le Nguyen, 52, all of Biloxi, Miss., for taking commercial flounder during a closed season and taking gamefish using illegal methods.
Agents were on patrol near Venice in the Gulf of Mexico when they boarded a vessel for an inspection. Agents found the subjects in possession of 121 southern flounder and two red drum.
The commercial and recreational season on southern flounder closed on Oct. 15 and remains closed until Nov. 30.
Taking flounder during a closed season carries up to a $350 fine. Taking gamefish using illegal methods brings up to a $950 fine and 120 days in jail.
Agents seized the flounder and sold them to the highest bidder and also seized the red drum and donated them to the Hunters for the Hungry charity.
Agents participating in the case are Lt. Adam Young and Agent Austin Wiles.
