Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) enforcement agents cited four subjects for alleged frogging violations in Claiborne Parish on May 31.

Agents cited Jeffrey McLelland, 56, of Lillie, Donna Barker, 55, of Lillie, Gregory Davis, 20, of Ruston, and Ashton Wick, 18, of Ruston, for harvesting frogs during a closed season.

Barker was also cited for possessing undersized frogs. McLelland was also cited for having improper running lights on his vessel. Davis was also cited for possession of a firearm while frogging at night and failing to comply with personal flotation device (PFD) requirements. Wick was also cited for possession of a firearm while frogging at night.

Agents were on patrol in Corney Lake when they came into contact with the subjects in two separate boats actively frogging during a closed season. Agents found McLelland and Barker in possession of four frogs of which three of them were undersized. Agents found Davis and Wick in possession of five frogs. Agents also discovered that Davis and Wick were in possession of a firearm while frogging at night.

Frogging season is closed during the months of April and May statewide.

Frogging during a closed season, possession of a firearm while frogging at night and possessing undersized frogs brings a $250 to $500 fine and up to 60 days in jail for each offense. Having improper running lights and failing to comply with PFD requirements carries up to a $50 fine for each offense.
