Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited three men for alleged migratory game bird violations in Lafayette Parish on Oct. 19.

Agents federally cited Paul Eason, 65, of Lafayette, William Stagg, 73, of Lafayette, and William Voitier, 71, of Opelousas, for violating the migratory game bird treaty act by hunting migratory game birds over a baited area.

Agents were on patrol near Broussard when they received a tip about dove hunting over a baited field. Agents arrived at the location and found the subjects actively hunting for doves. After an inspection of the area, agents determined they were hunting over an area that was spread with millet.

Agents seized 15 mourning doves that were harvested over the baited area.

All migratory game bird baiting cases are filed with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for prosecution in Federal Court.

Participating agents in this case are Sgt. David Boudreaux, Corporal Jason Marks, Corporal Michael Blanchard, and Senior Agent Angelle Bercegeay.
