The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) Enforcement Division raised over $4,000 for a cancer patient assistance charity by allowing agents to participate in “No Shave November” this past month.

LDWF agents raised a total of $4,580 that was donated to the Lydia Cancer Association (LCA) in New Iberia on Dec. 8.  Approximately 110 agents participated in “No Shave November” by growing kept facial hair during the month and then donating their money to the Louisiana Wildlife Agents Association (LWAA).  The LWAA then matched the agents’ donation of $2,290 to give to the LCA.

“We thought that this would be a good way to let the agents have a little fun and grow well kept beards or goatees while also raising money for an important cause,” said Col. Chad Hebert, head of the Enforcement Division.  “We were very happy with the amount of agents that participated and they all enjoyed it as well.  But the most important thing was the money that was raised for local cancer patients.”

LDWF Secretary Jack Montoucet praised the agents, adding, “I’m always amazed by the spirit and generosity of our agents. This was a great cause and I know they had a great time making it happen. A big thumbs up to them.”

LCA's purpose is to help cancer patients who are undergoing treatment in Iberia, St. Mary, St. Martin, and Vermillion parishes.  If anyone would like to donate to the LCA, please visit www.lydiacancerassociation.org.
