The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) would like to remind the public of the upcoming drawdown scheduled for Ivan Lake in Bossier Parish. In accordance with the Ivan Lake Management Plan, the drawdown is intended to boost lake fertility, allow for bottom oxidation, and to control aquatic vegetation.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has agreed to open the water control structure on or about July 17. The lake should dewater at a rate of 4 to 6 inches per day until it reaches a target level of 5 feet below pool stage. LDWF will closely monitor water levels during the drawdown period. The drawdown gate will be closed on October 16, 2023, to allow the lake to refill in time for part of the waterfowl season and early spring fishing. During the drawdown period, the boat ramp will be unavailable for use.
The management plan was updated in January 2023 and is available online at: https://www.wlf.louisiana.gov/resources/category/freshwater-inland-fish/inland-waterbody-management-plans
