Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries’ (LDWF) Boating Law Administrator, Major Clay Marques, was sworn in to the National Boating Safety Advisory Committee (NBSAC) on April 23, following his appointment to the Federal Advisory Committee by the Secretary of Homeland Security.
NBSAC is a Federal Advisory Committee that provides advice and recommendations to the Secretary of Homeland Security through the Commandant of the United States Coast Guard (USCG) and the Assistant Commandant for Prevention Policy on matters relating to national boating safety.
“It’s an honor to represent Louisiana on the national stage and very humbling to sit at the table with such influential leaders from around the country,” said Major Marques. “During my time on this committee, I’m going to continue to learn, share, and promote safe boating procedures both in Louisiana and across the nation.”
NBSAC consists of 21 members drawn equally from state officials responsible for state boating safety programs, representatives of the boating industry, representatives of national recreational boating organizations, and the general public.
LDWF works closely with the USCG and advocates on safety issues on behalf of its boaters, and Major Marques’ involvement on the Committee will ensure a voice for the broader recreational boating community.
The NBSAC was established under the Federal Boat Safety Act of 1971. The law requires the Secretary of Homeland Security and the USCG Commandant by delegation, to consult with the Committee in prescribing Federal regulations, and regarding other major boating safety matters.
