The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission (LWFC) approved a resolution to request Louisiana’s Congressional Delegation to compel the U.S. Department of Education to reverse its decision to restrict federal funding to schools implementing hunter education and Archery in Louisiana Schools (ALAS) due to language in the 2022 Bipartisan Safer Communities Act.

The action came during the LWFC September meeting Thursday (Sept. 7) in Baton Rouge.

The resolution reads, in part: the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) hereby urges and requests Louisiana’s Congressional Delegation to compel the U.S. Department of Education to reverse its guidance on withholding funds from schools with hunter education and archery programs in their curriculum and that the U.S. Congress correct the ambiguous language in the 2022 Bipartisan Safer Communities Act that could prevent federal funds from supporting schools that provide Hunter Education and ALAS programs in hundreds of schools in Louisiana.
