Rice Field Road and Signo Road in the Thistlethwaite Wildlife Management Area (WMA) have been temporarily closed due to oil and gas activity, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) announced.
Rice Field Road is expected to reopen in early April and Signo Road will likely reopen in May.
Thistlethwaite WMA is located three miles northeast of Washington off Louisiana Highway 10 in central St. Landry Parish.
Available game species include deer, squirrel, rabbit, wood duck and woodcock. The deer herd is high quality and hunters take many trophy bucks. For birders, hawks, owls, woodpeckers and neotropical migrant songbirds are common. LDWF maintains approximately one mile of wooded trails on the WMA.
All visitors to Thistlethwaite WMA and all LDWF WMAs must have either a WMA Access Permit, Senior Hunting/Fishing License, Louisiana Sportsman’s Paradise License or Lifetime Hunting/Fishing License.
