Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited a Theriot man for alleged oyster fishing violations in Terrebonne Parish on Sept. 20.
Agents cited Abelardo Carbajal, 59, for oyster sanitation code violations.
Agents wre on patrol in Oyster Bayou when they came into contact Carbajal who was actively oyster fishing. Agents conducted a license and compliance check and found Carbajal in violation of three sanitation requirements. Carbajal failed to tag the oysters under refrigeration, did not have a tarp installed to cover the work area and failed to fill out his logbook.
Agents seized 51 sacks of oysters and returned them to the water.
Violating the refrigeration sanitation requirement brings a $400 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail. Failing to fill out a logbook and install a tarp over the work area penalties are set by the district court for each offense.
Agents involved in the case are Lt. Joey Thompson, Corporal Norman Deroche, Sgt. Jake Darden and Agent Jebadiah Kraft.
