Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited two men for alleged commercial fishing violations in Plaquemines Parish on July 16.
Agents cited Dean Ancalade, 40, and Jacob Landry, 28, both of Venice, for taking commercial fish without a commercial fishing license. Ancalade was also cited for fishing while under license revocation.
Agents were on patrol in Breton Sound when they stopped a shrimping vessel for a compliance check. During the inspection, agents discovered that neither men possessed commercial fishing licenses and that Ancalade is under license revocation.
Agents seized 3,270 pounds of shrimp and sold them to the highest bidder.
Taking commercial fish without a commercial license carries up to a $950 fine and 120 days in jail. Fishing while under license revocation brings up to a $350 fine.
Agents participating in the case are Lt. Adam Young and Senior Agent Shea Schexnaydre and Senior Agent Heather Fitzgerald.
