Get ready to dive into the wonders of Louisiana’s rich outdoor heritage at the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Nature and Science Center at Port Wonder, an educational facility located in Lake Charles, Louisiana, set to open in early 2025. With over 15,000 gallons of fresh and saltwater aquarium displays, the Nature and Science Center offers a fun, educational, and family-friendly experience. Neighboring the Children’s Museum of Southwest Louisiana, it features aquariums showcasing Louisiana’s native aquatic species, along with interactive educational exhibits. In addition, an ADA-compliant fishing pier is accessible along the City of Lake Charles boardwalk, providing visitors the opportunity to fish some of the species featured inside! The LDWF aims to foster community involvement at the Nature and Science Center and fishing pier through volunteer opportunities, partnerships, and public programming, so stay tuned for exciting updates!

Fishing Pier

Join us for a day of fishing at Port Wonder. A 75-foot fishing pier provides easy access for a family day of fishing. With a covered area to escape the sun, the pier is located adjacent to the Port Wonder facility on the east side of North Beach in Lake Charles.

LDWF’s Nature and Science Center is located at the foot of the I-10 Bridge adjacent to the Lake Charles North Beach area. 1011 N. Lakeshore Drive, Lake Charles, LA From I-10 East: Exit 29, Port Wonder is on your right along the lakefront. From I-10 West: Exit 30A, loop around under the bridge and Port Wonder is on your right.
