Description
Dark brown; approximately 1.5 inches long. Its sting has been compared to that of a bee or wasp.
Range and Habitat
Southeastern United States from Virginia and Kentucky to Louisiana east of the Mississippi River to southern Florida. In Louisiana, restricted to the East Gulf Coastal Plain Southern Loess Bluff Forest of West Feliciana Parish.
Behavior
Like most scorpions, spends the majority of its time hidden under objects on the ground such as rocks and logs.
Population Status
Ranked globally as G5 (secure but rare in parts of its range), ranked as S1 (critically imperiled) in Louisiana due to extremely restricted range.
