Description

A free-floating plant with shiny, green, leathery leaves that are oval-shaped and curved inward. Leaves stand erect from thick, spongy stalks. Plant produces a purple flower with six petals. Roots are dark and feathery.

Habitat and Range

Introduced from South America. Lives in warm freshwater areas across Louisiana.

Behavior

Can multiply into incredibly dense mats and clog waterways, prohibiting access.
