Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited three subjects for alleged night hunting violations.

On Dec. 3, agents cited Gabriel Ovitt, 20, of Dubach, and a 17-year-old female of Dubach, for taking deer during illegal hours in Lincoln Parish. On Dec. 8, agents cited Jeffrey Page, 48, of Farmerville, for taking deer during illegal hours in Union Parish.

In Lincoln Parish, agents received information on Dec. 3 about a potential illegally harvested deer that was brought to a local deer processor. Agents made contact with Ovitt and the juvenile and they admitted to harvesting an 8-point deer near Dubach on the night of Dec. 2. Agents learned that Ovitt shot the deer with a rifle while the juvenile held a spotlight.

On the morning of Dec. 8 in Union Parish, agents found a harvested deer laying near a road near Farmerville. Agents made contact with Page who admitted to harvesting the 3-point deer with a rifle around 3:45 a.m. that morning.

Agents seized the two deer and donated them to a local charity. They also seized the two rifles.

Taking deer during illegal hours brings a $900 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail.

Ovitt and the juvenile may also face civil restitution totaling $2,033 for the replacement value of the illegally taken deer. Page may face civil restitution totaling $1,624 for his illegally taken deer.
