The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) will close the intersection of Plant Road and Rice Field Road at Thistlethwaite Wildlife Management Area (WMA) for culvert replacement beginning on Oct. 9. The closure is expected to last three days.

Thistlethwaite WMA is located three miles northeast of Washington off Louisiana Highway 10 in central St. Landry Parish.

Available game species include deer, squirrel, rabbit, wood duck, and woodcock. The deer herd is high quality and hunters take many trophy bucks. For birders, hawks, owls, woodpeckers, and neotropical migrant songbirds are common. LDWF maintains approximately one mile of wooded trails on the WMA.

All visitors to Thistlethwaite WMA and all LDWF WMAs must have either a WMA Access Permit, Senior Hunting/Fishing License, Louisiana Sportsman’s Paradise License, or Lifetime Hunting/Fishing License.
