Qualifications

Before You Apply

  • Minimum Qualifications:
    • Two years of law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer commissioned with the power of arrest
    • An associate’s degree from a technical college or completion of a two-year program at a vocational or technical school ; OR
    • Three (3) years of continuous active military service (all Military Occupational Specialties apply).

  • Experience Substitution:
    • Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will substitute for one year of the required experience.

  • Necessary Special Requirements:
    • Willingness and ability to attain a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.
    • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
    • Possession of a valid Louisiana driver's license.
    • An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified by the hiring agency until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

  • Note:
    • This job has special physical requirements in that the incumbent must lift heavy objects (50 lbs. or more), walk long distances, work in harsh weather conditions.
