Description

A broad-bodied fish with a brown to yellowish back and a bright yellow, forked tail. Has a bright silver belly and a black spot near the gills and at the base of pectoral fins. Typically weigh less than 20 pounds. 

Range and Habitat

Inhabit all tropical and temperate waters of the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico. Frequently found offhsore around structure or hard bottoms. Will move inshore into bays and esturaries with tidal shifts.  

Behavior

Normally swim in large schools and are voracious predators.
