Description
A small frog with adults usually ranging between 0.7 and 1.1 inches. Color pattern is extremely variable. There is a single dark triangle between the eyes and back of the head.
Range and Habitat
From North Carolina, south to Florida, and west to Louisiana. Not found west of the Mississippi River. Found in aquatic habitats in uplands, bottomlands, and streamsides. Very abundant in poorly drained, vegetated areas.
Behavior
Breed from March to October. Females can lay up to 340 eggs in multiple clusters of 7 to 10 eggs. Adults eat small invertebrates.
Population Status
Populations are considered stable
