Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited a North Louisiana man for alleged Wildlife Management Area (WMA) violations on Feb. 19.

Agents cited Robert Metcalf, 29, of Calhoun, for not abiding by WMA rules and regulations on the Russell Sage WMA.

Agents were alerted by a Russell Sage WMA technician about two trucks being stuck in mud on the WMA. Agents responded to the scene and found the two trucks stuck in mud and made contact with Metcalf who owned one of the trucks.

During their conversation, Metcalf admitted to agents of getting both trucks stuck on the WMA. He said he got one truck stuck on Feb. 16 and then tried to retrieve the truck on Feb. 17 and got another truck stuck.

The trucks were stuck off designated trails not designed for licensed motor vehicles. LDWF wants to remind the public that WMAs are protected areas with strict regulations to preserve wildlife habitats. Unauthorized vehicle use, including off-road driving, can cause significant environmental damage and result in legal consequences.

Not abiding by WMA rules and regulations brings up to a $350 fine. Metcalf could also face additional charges including being responsible for damages to the WMA and recovery of the vehicles.

Agents involved in the case are Corporal Torris White and Agent Caleb Kennedy.
