A Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agent cited two subjects for alleged deer hunting violations on March 8 in Assumption Parish.

Agent Savannah Lavergne cited Chase Cothran, 27, of Houma, for taking over the daily and yearly limit of antlered deer and using another hunter’s deer tags. Agent Lavergne also cited Blaze Templet, 24, of Labadieville, for allowing another to use deer tags.

Agent Lavergne received a complaint about a subject that harvested over the limit of deer during the 2024-25 hunting season. During the investigation, Agent Lavergne discovered that Cothran harvested two bucks on Dec. 29, which put him over his daily limit of one antlered deer.

Agent Lavergne also learned that Cothran had previously harvested two antlered deer earlier in the deer-hunting season, which put him over the seasonal limit of three antlered deer. Cothran also used Templet’s deer tag on the 10-point deer since he was out of antlered deer tags.

Taking over the daily and yearly limit of antlered deer brings a $250 to $500 fine and up to 90 days in jail for each offense. Using another’s deer tags and allowing another to use deer tags carries up to a $350 fine for each offense.

Cothran will also face civil restitution totaling $2,033 for the replacement value of the illegally taken deer.
